Withdrawal of the order to distribute Quran copies

A 19 year old girl Ms. Richa Bharti was arrested on July 12 for offences committed by her under sections 153 A and 295 A of Indian Penal Code for promoting communal hatred and hurting religious sentiments. She shared a post on her Facebook account regarding the lynching of Tabarez Ansari, therefore a complaint was made by Sadar Anjuman Committee at Pihoriya, Ranchi. An application for bail was filled and the Magistrate granted bail on July 15 with the condition that she had to distribute copies of Holy Quran to Sadar Anjuman Islamia Committee and to other libariries of various other schools. The main intention of the court was to neutralize the situation, court was of the opinion that it is very important to maintain religious harmony in a diverse country like India, considering the age of the accused and to protect the religious sentiments of all the same order was passed.

However the accused later said that she would not comply with the order of the court not because she does not respect the decision but because the impugned decision goes against her fundamental right of religion. The decision has also caused quite unrest among other too, The Ranchi District Bar Association also launched a rally in protest of the controversial decision and boycotted the Magistrate’s court. Also the RDBA met the Judicial Commissioner Navneet Kumar and requested him to look into this matter, they also demanded transfer the Judicial Magistrate.

An application was filled by the Pithoria police stating that the implementation of the said order was difficult and should be modified. Hence the Judicial Magistrate Manish Singh, Ranchi had withdrawn the order of donating copies of the Holy Quran
