Right to Protest: SC lifts absolute ban on Dharnas & Rallies at Jantar Mantar, Boat Club
Apex Court lifted the blanket ban on rallies, dharnas or sit-ins at the Jantar Mantar & Boat Club areas here, saying there couldn’t be an “absolute” ban on protests in such area.
A bench of Supreme Court Justices A. K. Sikri & Ashok Bhushan said, “There’s a need to strike a balance between conflicting rights such as the right to protest & the right of citizens to live peacefully.”
