Plea to modernize voting system in India : Delhi HC

A Public Interest Litigation was filled before the Delhi High Court by Ashwini Upadhyay where he has prayed for linking Aadhaar Card with the Voter ID Cards of the voters, this would prevent any duplication in voting and would also prevent any cases of multiple voting by the same person. The petitioner also prays that directions should be issued to Election Commission to bring this idea into implementation. Linking Aadhaar to Voter ID Cards would ensure free and fair system of elections, it will ensure that the fake, duplicate, repetitive and ghost voters are cleared out Along with this suggestion he has also explained the procedure to be followed while conducting voting through new databases.

Along with this he has also prayed for e-voting systems and finger printing or bio metrics systems for election. Along with his prayer he has also mentioned the advantages of these systems and how should they work to achieve those advantages. He has mentioned that these databases would be revised time to time for addition or subtraction of voters in the voters list. The main objective of installation of these systems is to increase the participation of people in voting as with the introduction of these systems people would then not have to go to the specified constituencies voting booths and wait in long queues instead they could vote from anywhere , anytime. This system would be time saving and cost effective.
