Nirbhaya gangrape: SC to hear juvenile plea on January 20

The Supreme Court will hear a plea of death row convict Pawan kumar Gupta in the Nirbhaya gangrape case.

The four convicts Akshay, Mukesh, Pawan and Vinay had Nirbhaya gangraped and murdered a 23 year old woman in a moving bus in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.

He goes against the Delhi High Court order dismissing his claim of being juvenile at the time of commission of the offence. He claim that he is juvenile at the time of offense.

A bench of three judges, Justice R. Banumathi, Ashok Bushan and A S Bopanna will hear the plea of Pawan Kumar Gupta.

Besides, the convict has sought a direction restraining the authorities from executing the death penalty, which has been rescheduled for February 1.

The first mercy plea in the case has already been rejected by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on January 17, 2020. The Patiala house court of Delhi on the same day had issued fresh death warrants for the accused who will now be hanged on February 1 at 6 am in the morning.
