CJI Gogoi, Madan LokurJ to hear PILs : New Supreme Court Roster

After taking oath, CJI Ranjan Gogoi released new roster of cases for the benches of the Supreme Court today. 
As per the roster, letter petitions and Public Interest Litigation (PILs) will be heard by the Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. The Bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur, the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, will also hear those PILs allocated to him by Gogoi J.
The Chief Justice of India will also hear Social Justice matters, Election matters, Habeas Corpus petitions, Contempt of Court matters, cases related to appointment of Constitutional Functionaries, and matters pertaining to judicial officers, among others. 
The issue of allocation of cases in Supreme Court had led to a big controversy in January this year when four senior judges of the Supreme Court  a press conference. The four judges –  Justice Ranjan Gogoi Justices Jasti Chelameswar, Madan Lokur and Kurien Joseph – had protested the manner in which cases were being allocated to different benches by the then CJI Dipak Misra.
